Dr James Wong
Cardiologist

Dr James Wong has been a practising cardiologist since 1985 after graduating with honours from the University of NSW in 1977. He specialises in general adult cardiology, angiography and heart failure and his clinical interests include coronary disease, hypertension and preventative cardiology.

Dr James Wong is a regular speaker in educational seminars for doctors and the community, Dr Wong also mentors medical students and young doctors via the AMA mentor scheme, and has vast experience in adult clinical cardiology.

Dr Wong is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, and a Member of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.

Dr Bill Petrellis
Cardiologist

Dr Bill Petrellis is a cardiac electrophysiologist and general adult cardiologist who specialises in arrhythmia management. He’s an expert in ablation of cardiac arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation and device implantation.

Dr Petrellis was awarded his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Melbourne in 1996. He completed advanced training in cardiology at the Austin Hospital, Melbourne in 2003, which was followed by a two-year clinical fellowship of Electrophysiology and Arrhythmia Management in London, Canada.

Dr Petrellis was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2005 and was appointed consultant electrophysiologist at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto and a clinical teacher with the University of Toronto, before returning to practise in Sydney in 2006. He was a locum staff specialist for cardiac device implantation at Wollongong Hospital in 2008 and locum staff specialist of electrophysiology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in 2009-10. Dr Petrellis has been retained as a medical expert to provide advice on the rollout of automated external defibrillators in the public transport sector. He also supports regional healthcare through attendance at outreach cardiac device clinics in Dubbo and Orange, NSW.

Dr Petrellis is an Accredited Medical Officer at the Sydney Adventist Hospital and the Mater Hospital. He consults at the Bella Vista and Chatswood practice locations of Sydney Cardiology. His teaching interests include demonstration and training of cardiac device implantation.

Dr Fiona Foo
Interventional Cardiologist

Dr Fiona Foo graduated from the University of Western Australia with honours in 2001, completed her internship in Royal Perth Hospital, and her adult internal medicine training at Concord Hospital, Sydney.

Dr Fiona Foo specialises in Interventional Cardiology and general adult cardiology.

Dr Fiona Foo graduated from the University of Western Australia with honours, and completed her Advanced Cardiology Training in Fremantle Hospital (WA). She then undertook Interventional Cardiology Fellowships in the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, in Edmonton, Canada; and the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Glasgow, Scotland.

Her interests include coronary interventions via the radial approach, use of fractional flow reserve, acute coronary syndromes, cardiac risks of non cardiac surgery following coronary revascularisation, and ischaemic heart disease in women.

She has a keen interest in diet, exercise and preventative lifestyle measures as well as Sports cardiology.  A fitness enthusiast, you can find her in the gym, outdoors running, in half marathons, swimming events, or doing yoga.

Dr Foo is an accredited Medical Officer at Macquarie University Hospital, Sydney Adventist Hospital, Norwest Hospital and the Eastern Heart Clinic.

Dr Abhinav Luhach
Cardiologist

Dr Abhinav Luhach is a general adult cardiologist with special interests in preventative cardiology, echocardiography (cardiac ultrasound) & cardiac CT.

Dr Abhinav Luhach received first class honours from the University of New South Wales. He undertook his residency and physician training at the Royal North Shore Hospital. Subsequent to this he completed his general cardiology training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. During his training he was exposed to the full breadth of adult cardiology & cardiac imaging modalities. He has complemented this with additional experience in practising general medicine. Dr Luhach has also undertaken further training in cardiac CT. He is fluent in Hindi.

A/Prof Martin Brown
Cardiologist

A/Prof Martin Brown specialises in advanced heart failure care and transplant cardiology and is accredited in both cardiology and general medicine.

A/Prof Brown assesses and manages patients with severe left and right ventricular failure using inotropes and mechanical circulatory support and manages acute and chronic cardiac transplant patients. He also collaborates with cardiothoracic surgeons to assess and manage high-risk cardiothoracic surgery patients and their pre, peri and post-operative care.

Prior to joining Sydney Cardiology A/Prof Brown was a consultant cardiologist with the Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation Unit at The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane, Australia; the largest cardiothoracic hospital in southern hemisphere. He was also the heart failure and transplant representative for the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Unit and a member of the multidisciplinary TAVI, MitraClip and Melody valve teams.

A/Prof Brown has been head of departmental research at The Prince Charles Hospital since 2009, and has published 50 abstracts and peer-reviewed articles. He is a senior lecturer of medicine at the University of Queensland and a college supervisor of cardiology advanced trainees. He reviews articles for both Circulation and European Heart Journals and was awarded Fellowship to the European Society of Cardiology in 2012. His interests are right ventricular failure, adult congenital heart disease, infiltrative cardiomyopathies, chemotherapy cardiomyopathy, pulmonary hypertension, and high-risk surgical cases.

Dr Ru Dee Ting
Cardiologist

Dr Ting obtained his degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Melbourne. He trained in cardiology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and completed an interventional fellowship at St Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto, Canada. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Specialties: Coronary angioplasty, rotational atherectomy, diagnostic intracoronary imaging, right heart catheterisation and haemodynamic testing

Dr Ru Dee Ting specialises in coronary angioplasty, rotational atherectomy, diagnostic intracoronary imaging, right heart catheterisation and haemodynamic testing. He is proficient in both radial and femoral access coronary angiography. Dr Ting also has expertise in structural intervention including transcatheter aortic valve implantation, atrial septal defect and patent foramen ovale closure and transcatheter mitral valve repair. These techniques enable patients to have coronary artery occlusion, certain cardiac valve abnormalities and congenital defects addressed with minimally invasive approaches, avoiding the need for open heart surgery. Dr Ting also performs transthoracic echocardiography, exercise stress echo testing, holter and event monitoring, and 24hr blood pressure monitoring.

Dr Ting obtained his degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Melbourne. He trained in cardiology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and completed an interventional fellowship at St Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto, Canada. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

In addition, Dr Ting holds a PhD and a Masters of Clinical Trials from the University of Sydney. He undertook translational research at both the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre and the Heart Research Institute. He was the recipient of a NHMRC postgraduate scholarship as well as a NHMRC CTC PhD research scholarship for his work examining the impact of renal disease on cardiovascular risk and the effect of fenofibrate on the microvascular complications of diabetes. He has published in various medical journals and has presented his work at numerous conferences both locally and internationally.

He is a clinical lecturer at the University of Sydney clinical school and a senior clinical lecturer at the Macquarie University clinical school, being involved with undergraduate education. He also delivers lectures extensively to primary care physicians in the areas of preventative cardiology, coronary heart disease and arrhythmia.

Dr Ting has admitting rights at Sydney Adventist Hospital, Norwest Private Hospital and Macquarie University Private Hospital. He is bilingual in English and Mandarin.

Ru-Dee’s main job is being a dad, and can be found on most weekends at various playgrounds around Sydney. He also enjoys tennis and rock climbing.

 

Dr Gunjan Aggarwal
Cardiologist

Dr Gunjan Aggarwal graduated with first class honours from the University of NSW in 2002 and completed his residency and basic physician training at Westmead Hospital where he was exposed to a broad range of medical specialties.

Dr Gunjan Aggarwal undertook his adult cardiology training at Prince of Wales, St George and Wollongong Hospitals. Subsequently he was appointed the Echocardiography and Cardiac Imaging Fellow at the Prince of Wales and St George Hospitals in 2009 and 2010.

Dr Aggarwal holds a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and is a member of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

He is a Visiting Medical Officer at the Eastern Heart Clinic, Prince of Wales Private and Norwest Private Hospital.He has Level 2 accreditation with the Society of Cardiovascular CT and is currently involved in clinical research in this rapidly expanding subspecialty at the Prince of Wales Hospital as a postgraduate research fellow.

Dr Aggarwal consults in Sydney Cardiology’s Bella Vista, Blacktown and Parramatta practices on an associate basis. He is committed to providing the highest standard of cardiology care to his patients, with an empathic and individualised approach. He is also fluent in Hindi.

Dr Andrew Terluk

Dr Andrew Terluk has extensive training and experience in acute and emergency cardiac conditions and performs angiography, transoesophageal echocardiography and Dobutamine stress echocardiography, as well as cardioversions and pacemaker implantation. Dr Terluk is a Member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

In the past two years, Dr Terluk has presented scientific posters nationally and internationally at the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (Melbourne and Adelaide, AUS) and Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (San Francisco, USA).
Dr Terluk is currently involved in scientific research, including the echocardiographic assessment of right heart function and cardiac failure in the context of cancer.
